TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Renters must carry a Driver’s Licence or a valid unendorsed driver’s licence with English translation and photograph.
  • The minimum rental age is 21 years, and the driver must have been in possession of a valid drivers licence for a minimum of 1 year. Renters who are under the age of 21 or have not had a drivers licence for more than 1 year will be permitted to rent a vehicle subject to a young drivers surcharge.
  • There is no maximum rental age, however, Personal Accident Insurance is not included for persons over the age of 75 years.
  • It is a legal requirement in Southern Africa to be in possession of your drivers licence at all times whilst driving a vehicle.
  • Over Border Rentals: Clients wishing to enter a country other than the country of rental, must be in possession of a Letter of Authority from Avis, obtainable from Avis when you pick up your vehicle.
  • The minimum rental period is 1 day and calculates on a 24 hour cycle, which starts from the time of collection. Should a vehicle be returned late, the renter will be charged for an additional day at the extension rates which will have to be settled direct with Avis on return of the vehicle.
  • A credit card is required on collection of the vehicle - authorisation for the fuel deposit and excess amounts will be taken off of your credit card if applicable.

Mobile Phones
Free mobile phone rental service provides travellers with a cost effective alternative to international roaming and is more convenient than a pre-paid option.
* Pay for calls and insurance. In Namibia, satellite phone rentals are available.

Avis Assist GPS Enabled Navigation
The satellite navigation system (GPS - Global Positioning System) plugs into a car’s cigarette lighter point and is operated through a touch screen mechanism. You simply have to enter your destination into the unit and will be guided with turn-by-turn directions on screen and voice prompts to your destination.

Avis Travel Card
International driver’s are not permitted to purchase fuel in South Africa with a credit card. Avis have recently launched the exclusive new Avis Travel Card, which runs in association with Engen Service Stations, so whenever a driver sees a ‘Travel Card’ sign at an Engen garage they are able to swipe the card to purchase fuel, toll fees, snacks, reading material and much more. The card is available in the values of ZAR 500-00, ZAR 1 000-00, ZAR 1 500-0 and ZAR 2 000-00. The Avis Travel Card is as convenient as a credit card and much safer than cash. The card is available at Avis main airport locations. Clients will be given an Engen Road Atlas with a comprehensive list of Engen depots countrywide.
